Rollers and Needles
Definition
Rollers or needles are small solid metal cylinders, most often 100Cr6 bearing steel. When the length is greater than twice the diameter, it is called a needle; when the length is less than this limit, it is called a roller.
Why use them?
Certain sliding or pivoting constraints require the use of rollers or needles rather than balls. Indeed, while the contact surface of a ball is limited to a point, that of a roller or needle will be a line, and therefore able to support a greater load.
Business sectors
- Used across a wide range of industries – aerospace, automotive, logistics, food processing, and printing – rollers and needles are essential components in bearing systems subjected to heavy loads.
- Unlike balls, they provide a linear contact surface, ideal for sliding or pivoting forces, ensuring better load distribution and high reliability.
